Lee Murphy has lived his entire adult life in Delaware. He arrived in the First State in 1970, raised his family here, and has spent the decades since serving his neighbors — in the classroom, on the railroad, and throughout his community.
Lee began his career as a schoolteacher for the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, starting at Immaculate Heart of Mary. A lifelong athlete, he coached at St. Mark's, St. Elizabeth, and Archmere — investing in young Delawareans on and off the field.
As his family grew, Lee left teaching for the railroad. Over more than 35 years he worked his way up from conductor to locomotive engineer and into management before retiring — a blue-collar career that taught him what it takes to make things work and to provide for a family.
Since retiring, Lee has pursued a longtime passion for acting, appearing in commercials, film, and television.
Beyond his careers, Lee has given back to the community he loves — serving as president of his civic association and of his church parish council, and volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware.
Through life's challenges, Lee has learned the importance of family, community, and a government that protects and defends its citizens. Now a grandfather helping to raise two wonderful grandkids, he is committed to speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves — and he pledges to represent, with honor and fairness, his family and yours, and all Delawareans, in the U.S. Congress.
